MIXED-GENDER HOUSING

Sex-segregated housing may not be suitable for some students. To address this, the Department of Residence Life and Housing offers mixed-gender housing.

Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis to provide comfortable and safe living spaces. Mixed-gender housing is not available for romantic couples.

Options Available

Option 1: Mixed-Gender Community

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ can select this option by completing the Mixed Gender Housing Application after they complete their housing and dining contract. It allows roommate group formation and room selection with a roommate of a different legal sex. These spaces are available in various buildings with private bathrooms. Participants must sign the mixed-gender housing agreement.

Option 2: Contact reslife@uakron.edu

Requests outside the Mixed-Gender Community must be approved and are dependent on availability. Options include:

• Mixed-gender suites and apartments
• Roommates of different legal sexes with a private bathroom
• Single rooms on the floor of the student’s legal sex, if a private bathroom exists

Costs may vary, and agreement from all parties is required. Staff will keep disclosed information confidential. Email reslife@uakron.edu early to explore housing options.

Option 3: Select a Room Independently

Options that do not require office involvement include roommates of the same legal sex but different gender expressions.
