Emerging Leaders

Your path to leadership development, civic engagement and self-discovery

Our Emerging Leaders Program creates an opportunity for you and other first-year students to become actively engaged in the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ community through leadership development, civic engagement and self-discovery.

We will help prepare you for leadership roles on ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, on the job and in your community.

Program highlights

Qualifications

  1. A minimum 2.5 cumulative high school GPA (minimum 3.5 cumulative high school GPA for UA's Williams Honors College).
  2. Available to arrive to ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ one week early for Leadership Training Week and Welcome Weekend.
  3. Able to commit for a full year to the Program and Major Events Committee events.
  4. Members of this community will need to register for the special fall ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Experience: University 101 class, and the advanced Leadership Principles class in the spring.
  5. Resident of either Ritchie Hall, Sisler-McFawn Residence Hall or 5th floor of the Honors Complex (pending Honors College acceptance).

Responsibilities of Major Events Committee include:

How to Apply

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ interested in applying for the Emerging Leaders Program should first complete a housing application for the upcoming academic year. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ can access the housing application by signing into MyºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and clicking on the MyHousing icon. Once in MyHousing select the upcoming academic year and complete the housing application including the required housing prepayment.

Once the housing application is completed, incoming students will be able to complete the Emerging Leaders application in MCR in the Housing Applications section of the Housing Forms page. You will receive a follow-up from our office regarding inclusion in the program for the upcoming academic year.

What do Emerging Leaders do?

Emerging Leaders take part in a specialized class called ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Experience: University 101 in the fall and a Leadership Principles course in the spring, are mentored by upperclassmen student leaders within Residence Life and Housing, and come into The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ already a part of the Residence Hall Program Board (RHPB) as a member of the Major Events Committee.
