White, Jeanette Memorial Scholarship

Mrs. Edna Jeannette Murie White began her college career at Ohio University in 1940 and graduated from The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ in 1964, magna cum laude, with a bachelor of arts degree in education.  Mrs. White devoted 19 years to the accounting and business education programs at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ East High School. In 2005, Mrs. White was made an honorary alumna of The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ School of Law, and in October 2008, she was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. 

Mrs. White was committed to ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Public Schools and higher education. At The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, she left an indelible mark on ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and on students through her support. She was instrumental in the refurbishment of Buchtel Hall and Hower House and endowed scholarships in the School of Law and College of Nursing. She was a strong advocate for education until her death in November 2008.  

The recipient of The Jeannette White Memorial Scholarship must be a graduate of East High School and must be enrolled full time at The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ or Ohio University. The scholarship may be renewed, and the recipient will be chosen based on scholastic achievement and community involvement or extracurricular activities at East High School, The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, or Ohio University.

The principal or guidance counselor of East High School and a close friend of Mrs. White, Judge Jane Bond, shall choose the scholarship recipient annually.
